Teeth whitening

Achieve a naturally brighter smile with our tailored home whitening systems. We use a precise 3D digital scan of your mouth to craft bespoke, custom fit trays designed to hold the whitening gel perfectly against your teeth. Worn comfortably at home for around two weeks, this system delivers beautiful, safe results. We will always provide an honest, transparent assessment of what shade is realistically achievable for your smile before you begin.

Home whitening at QueensWood is from £495, which covers the consultation, a 3D scan, custom made trays and your gel. You wear the trays for around two weeks. Replacement gel is from £40. Whitening lifts the natural shade of your own teeth rather than covering them.

How whitening works here

This is a professional home whitening system, completely supervised by your dentist. It is not a fast, one hour treatment in the chair, nor is it a generic kit bought off the internet.

Instead, we take a 3D digital scan of your teeth to make custom trays that fit only your mouth. You simply add a small amount of whitening gel to the trays and wear them daily for about two weeks. We will see you at the end to review your results. These trays fit tightly for a reason: because they are custom made for your smile, they hold the gel securely against your teeth rather than letting it spread onto your gums, which can cause uneven results or irritation.

There are two ways to fit this into your daily life: a stronger gel worn for two to three hours during the day, or a gentler gel worn overnight for around eight hours. Your dentist will recommend the best option for you based on your teeth, your history of sensitivity, and your routine. To give you the best possible results, we use Boutique Whitening.

What whitening will and will not change

It will

Lighten the natural colour of your own teeth, usually by several shades, and lift years of staining from tea, coffee, red wine and tobacco. The result lasts a good while if you look after it, with the occasional top up.

It will not

Whitening gel only works on natural tooth enamel. It cannot change the colour of existing crowns, veneers, bridges or white fillings, which stay the exact shade they were made in. If you have restorations near the front of your mouth, whitening your natural teeth around them can make those older pieces look out of place. We will always talk this through with you before you start, letting you know if any restorations would need updating and what those costs would come to.

A word on sensitivity, and what we will do about it

Some people find their teeth feel a little sensitive during whitening. It usually settles within a day or two of finishing. If your teeth are already sensitive, do mention it at your consultation and we will plan around it, with a gentler gel, shorter wear times to begin with, or a desensitising product to use alongside. And if sensitivity crops up partway through, please ring us rather than pressing on or giving up, because it is almost always straightforward to sort out.

Who whitening suits

  • Natural teeth that have darkened with age, tea, coffee, red wine or tobacco.
  • Teeth and gums that are healthy, which we check before any gel is made up.
  • Anyone willing to wear the trays for about two weeks, either overnight or two to three hours a day.
  • Not crowns, veneers, bridges or white fillings, which stay the shade they were made in.
  • Not straightening. If your teeth are crowded, aligners first will give a better result.
