Emergency Appointments
In pain, swollen, or something has broken? Please ring us. You do not need to be a registered patient.
At QueensWood, we extend our emergency services to both registered and non registered patients, doing our utmost to provide same day triage and relief for anyone experiencing acute pain. To secure a same day appointment, please contact our team on 01837 516645, and we highly recommend calling at 8.30am when our daily emergency slots open. Our emergency consultation and treatment fee is £350, and it focuses strictly on providing immediate relief and stabilisation on the day for the specific tooth causing your pain.
- We will do our best to see you the same day
- You do not need to be registered

Read this first if your face is swollen
Go to A&E or call 111 now if
- Swelling spreading towards your eye, or down into your neck
- Difficulty breathing or difficulty swallowing
- You cannot open your mouth
- You feel unwell with it, feverish or shivery
A dental infection that is spreading is a medical emergency, not just a painful tooth. Call 111 for advice, or go to A&E. Please do not sit on it overnight.

What counts as a dental emergency
- Toothache keeping you awake
- Swelling around a tooth, gum or face
- A broken or knocked out tooth
- A lost filling or crown with a sharp edge
- Bleeding that will not stop
- An abscess
- A broken denture
What happens when you ring
The treatment is completed at that first appointment wherever it can be. A second visit is only needed where the tooth turns out to need root canal treatment, or where it has to settle before the repair can be done properly.
Managing until you get here
Painkillers as directed on the packet
Always read the instructions on the packet, and speak to a pharmacist, your doctor or us before taking anything you are not sure about, particularly if you take other medication or are pregnant.
Keep your head raised at night
An extra pillow reduces the pressure at the root tip, which is why dental pain is so often worse lying flat.
Avoid very hot, cold and sweet things
And chew on the other side. A cracked tooth gets worse every time you load it.

Questions we are often asked
If you have any questions about cost, please ask. We would far rather answer a question about price on the phone than have you wondering about it.
Do I have to be a registered patient?
No. You do not need to be registered with us to be seen for an emergency appointment.
Will I be seen today?
We will do our best to see anyone in pain the same day. Please ring us on 01837 516645 rather than booking online, and ring at 8.30am if you can, which is when the day's appointments are set.
How much does an emergency appointment cost?
From £350, which covers treatment on the day for the one tooth that is causing the pain. We do not examine the rest of your mouth at an emergency appointment, so if you would like everything else looked at and diagnosed, that is a new patient examination booked separately.
What do I do at night or at the weekend?
Call 111, who can direct you to the out of hours dental service. Patient Plan Direct members can also call the Global Dental Scheme on 0333 3580 477, and 247 Dentist is on 0330 1759995. If your face is swollen and the swelling is spreading, or you are having difficulty breathing or swallowing, go to A&E or call 111 straight away.
What if I cannot get to you today?
Ring us anyway and we will give you the first time we have. If you cannot wait, NHS 111 can direct you to the urgent dental service. Swelling that is spreading across the face or into the neck, difficulty swallowing or difficulty breathing needs A&E.
Can you see my child?
We are an adult only practice, so we do not treat children. If you are looking for a dentist for a child, do ring us and we will gladly point you towards a practice nearby that takes them.
